Relief materials found misused in Gorkha
GORKHABAZAAR: Relief materials sent by the government and different donor agencies for quake survivors in Gorkha district were found to have been misused.
Many people with access to political power are learnt to have stored the relief materials in their homes, instead of distributing to the quake survivors.
The District Natural Disaster Relief and Rescue Committee carried out an investigation after more than 7,000 complaints regarding misuse of the relief materials were registered before the Committee.
The Committee found 12 sets of utensils stored at the house of Tek Bahadur Bhatta of Baguwa VDC-1 in course of investigation. Similarly, 13 sacks of rice were recovered from the house of Padam Bhatta and 10 sacks of rice from the house of Prem Chandra Shrestha, according the Committee.
A meeting held in the village on Saturday handed over the relief materials to the VDC Secretary, said a local Deepak Bohara. Investigation over other complaints including the misuse of tarpaulin sheets is underway.
