Report on Kapilvastu riots soon: Mallik

Kapilvastu, January 3:

Though four months have elapsed since the government formed commission to investigate into the Kapilvastu riots, the panel was yet to publish its report.

However, president of the commission, Lokendra Mallik, said they were preparing to make public the riots report. “We had sought 15 days from the government and are preparing to submit the report in a week,” he said.

According to the earlier deadline, the commission had to submit its report by December 29 after its first deadline in October was postponed by two months.

The three-member commission was formed under the presidency of appellate court judge Mallik, deputy attorney Pusparaj Koirala and DIG Niraj Pun.

The commission had visited incident site in Rajbiraj on October 3 and started its second phase of investigation in the second week of December.

According to a primary report of the Kapilvastu district administration office, 14 people were killed, 150 vehicles damaged and 726 houses and shops were torched or robbed in the incident.

Following the riots, more than 10 villages in the district were badly affected. People, who were displaced by the incident, have been passing a tough time in the temporary camps in Shankarpur, Barakalpur and Banganga.
