Janakpurdham, May 2

A commission formed to recommend the name and permanent headquarters of Province 2 submitted its report to the Province 2 government today.

The commission’s chair Haribansha Jha handed over the report to Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut at a press conference organised in the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers today.

Formed on 29 October 2018, the Jha-led commission was given 45 days to submit its report. The commission could not submit the report within the deadline, which was extended by two months. However, the report was submitted six months later.

The recommended name and permanent headquarters have been kept secret. According to a source, Madhes, Madhya Madhes, Mithila and Janakai are the possible names of the province. Janakpur, Birgunj and Simraungadh have been suggested for provincial capital.

In the press meet, Jha said they had held consultation with people’s representatives from all eight districts, civil society, and representatives of organisations for a possible name and headquarters of the province. CM Raut has said the Cabinet would deliberate on the report and table it at the Provincial Assembly for approval.
