KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 17
Longline rescuers failed to retrieve body of a Russian woman climber who was perished on Mt Dhaulagiri on October 14.
According to Iswari Paudel, managing director of Himalayan Guides, a team of longline rescuers flew to the high camp of Dhaulagiri this morning to attempt to recover body of Nadezhda Oleneva. "The team couldn't retrieve her body as it was covered by a deep fresh snow," Paudel said.
Senior Captain of Kailash Helicopter Philipp Schwegler, climber Roman Abildaev and longline specialist Dinesh were there to recover her body, Paudel said, adding that their efforts couldn't be materialized as the body was covered by fresh snow.
Earlier, an aerial search spotted the female climber above 6,000m on October 15.
Senior Captain Philipp along with Roman Abildaev located Nadezhda, who was trapped in a fracture of the ice sheet, Paudel said.
Nadezhda fell some 500m on the icy slope from around 6,680m when a three-member team of Russian climbers attempted to climb Dhaulagiri without using base camp or Sherpa support. Her teammates - Abildaev and Radom Kashapov - reported that she had fallen while heading for the high camps.
