Dean at the Institute of Engineering Prof Dr Sashidhar Ram Joshi stressed the importance of research saying, "There is a transition in technology. A good researcher needs to understand this transition."
Joshi affirmed that research was the best way to show one's potential in the field of technical education and assured he would assist the field of engineering in any way possible. He was making these remarks at the seventh Office of KEC Research and Publications Conference, 2022 organised by Kathmandu Engineering College in the federal capital today.
Other speakers also pointed out the need to promote research with academia-industry collaboration in the field of engineering science.
The conference with its motto, 'Resilience with Technical Innovation' was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol. In the conference, chief guest Dangol vowed to work for the improvement of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. "We lack proper research in our projects. We are now prioritising research in every aspect of development," she added. She informed that she would look for feedbacks and technical assistance from the KEC.
On the occasion, Prof Narendra Man Shakya of the KEC viewed, "Research is necessary to bridge the gap between academia and the field". He, however, expressed worry over the missing linkage of research with academia in Nepal owing to lack of proper human resources.
"Research and development must be expedited in the engineering college," Shakya stressed.
He also requested the Dean at the IOE Joshi to support in running the post-graduate programme at the KEC which had been running the under-graduate programme for the past 20 years.
Moreover, KEC Chairperson Prof Hirendra Man Pradhan showed eagerness to collaborate with the KMC and provide innovative ideas that could be helpful in formulating plans. The Department Head of OKRP Pratima Pradhan expressed belief that research would enhance the ability of students. "Research at the national level engages teachers as well as students in the field of engineering. The OKRP is also ready to welcome research collaboration between national and international specialists and researchers," she added.
The OKRP came into existence in 2013 under academic curriculum of the KEC to promote research works and publications at the national and international level.
The KEC has been carrying out research with the help of the OKRP for the welfare of academics.
