Residence to earthquake survivors before monsoon
KATHMANDU: A temporary or transitional residence is to be constructed for earthquake survivors who have been living under tents after their permanent houses were devastated by the Gorkha earthquake on April 25 last year.
A meeting of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Ministry of Home Affairs and officers of all three security agencies held on Monday, took the decision to that effect.
NRA Spokesperson Ram Prasad Thapaliya told RSS that the decision was taken to support earthquake survivors in building makeshift residence till their permanent houses were constructed.
"An arrangement of temporary residence will be made before the onset of monsoon through necessary coordination among NRA, Home Ministry, Central Natural Disaster Relief Committee, Urban Development Ministry and MOFALD", he added.
The distribution and management processes will be handled at district level under the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee.
The meeting also decided to arrange settlement for those residing under tents either without their own land or being insecure of constructing houses en masse in proper residential land.
According to NRA, the central project implementation unit will prepare model house within three days. The ownership of the mass houses will belong to concerned VDC or municipality.
The meeting also decided to request the Home Ministry's Central Natural Disaster Relief Committee to arrange mobilisation of all three security agencies to support the construction of temporary residence.
