Rift in NC-D delays unity

Kathmandu, September 19:

NC(D)-NC unification has been delayed because of divisions in the NC (D) and the politics of its key leader. The issue had made headlines last Tuesday when NC President Girija Prasad Koirala met senior NC leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. The two leaders said both parties must unite before an election to a constituent assembly.

“That’s (unification) easier said than done. The problem is NC (D) has not introduced the unification agenda in the party at all.The missing step alone could drive the process along a desired framework,” said NC (D) CWC member Amar Raj Kaini.

He accused NC (D) president Sher Bahadur Deuba of “playing” with the crucial issue and “concerned about protecting the political career of just a few people around him.” “ Take it from me, he is talking about honorable unification only for few people around him,” Kaini said. However, Kaini conceded the unification is also delayed because a number of teams are negotiating with the parent outfit the NC.

“”We have three groups. One is led by Deuba. Chiranjivi Wagle and Bijay Kumar Gachchadar lead the second. The third is being led by Purna Bahadur Khadka, with blessings of Bhattarai,” said Kaini.
