Right to declare election date should be with EC: CEC Yadav

DAMAULI: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the right to declare election date of every level of election should be given to the Election Commission (EC).

CEC Yadav said this while inaugurating the District Election Office, in Damauli of Tanahun district on Friday.

Yadav said that the right to declare the election date should beĀ given to EC and provisioned into an act, while mentioning that the government had kept the right to itself till date, hindering the Commission to hold elections on time.

He claimed that the EC had the capacity to hold an election within 60 days instead of 120 days while informing that the Commission has been continuing to create organisational structure, managing manpower, reviewing election, and collecting the voters' list in all 77 districts.

Yadav also advised the political parties to ensure women's representation as provisioned in the constitution and laws.

According to CEC Yadav, there is no provision in the constitution for fulfilment of vacant posts except the posts of deputy mayor and mayor. He said the EC would suggest amending the related law in discussion with political parties.

He also thanked everyone for their support and cooperation for successful completion of all three levels of election.
