Rights body lives up to closure threat

Bhairahawa, November 28:

Demanding the formation of a high-level land commission, the Rupandehi chapter of District Land Rights Forum today padlocked the Bhairahawa based District Land Revenue Office.

The landless people, including the agricultural labourers and tillers, demanded an end to their century-long exploitation. Their demands include cancellation of land owner-oriented Land Act 2021 and bringing in a new one in their participation, they not be expelled from the land they had been tilling and allocate 20 percent of VDC budget for the land reform acts.

They shouted slogans in front of the land revenue office and said they their lockout would go till 4 pm. Earlier, the landless people submitted a memorandum to the Chief District Officer.
