Road expansion work hits snag

Dhangadhi, February 17

Construction of the six-lane Mohana-Attariya Road in Dhangadhi remains halted for the past one and-half months as hearing of a case filed at the apex court is deferred time and again.

Mohana-Attariya Road Project office said hearing of the case was postponed 4 times after the plaintiffs did not show up for the hearing. Project Chief Manish Shah said a Supreme Court interim order halted the construction. Shah said the project was unlikely to meet the deadline due to the court’s order.

The government determined the width of the six-lane road at 50 metres. The project office demolished illegal physical structures along the road, but electricity and telephone poles have yet to be removed.

Locals have demanded compensation for the buildings that were demolished by the government.
