Road mishaps on rise in Pokhara

POKHARA: A youth was killed when his two-wheeler was hit by a bus in Pokhara-16 last night. Nil Bahadur KC (26) of Pokhara-12 was killed in the road mishap.

The members of the Prithvi Highway Bus Entrepreneurs' Committee agreed to provide Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the victim's family and repair the two-wheeler.

A week had not even passed when another youth, Pritam Gurung (20) of Lamachanur, had been killed in a similar road mishap in Pokhara-16. Microbus services had been halted for two days due to protests of the victim's family.

Microbus services resumedlast week after an agreement was reached between the members of the bus entrepreneurs' committee and relatives of Gurung. The Pokhara Bus Entrepreneurs' Committee had agreed to provide Rs 3 lakh as compensation to Gurung's family.

Twenty-nine persons have lost their lives in road accidents in Kaksi district only in the fiscal year 2065/66. Kaski DSP Tulsi Adhikary said torrential rain and high speed were the main reasons behind such mishaps.
