Robbery staged for insurance

Hetauda, May 31

Makawanpur police have arrested one person for staging a robbery drama at his shop to prolong the payment of bank loan and claim insurance, in Hetauda.

The arrested person has been identified as Umesh Ghimire, proprietor of Ghimire Electric and Electronic Centre in Parijatpath of Hetauda.

Ghimire’s elder brother, Rudra Prasad Ghimire, took away wires, electric bulbs and cash worth Rs 3.2 million from Ghimire’s shop on May 21. Umesh then filed a robbery case at the District Police Office, Makawanpur, on May 24.

According to Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Singh, police investigation showed that proprietor Ghimire himself had masterminded the robbery. “Ghimire registered the theft case by hiding the goods on his own,” said Singh. Police investigation showed that Ghimire had staged the robbery to delay the loan payment deadline to Sunrise Bank. He owes Rs 5 million to the bank.

Police investigation showed that Ghimire had devised a plan to pay back the loan by claiming Rs 5 million as insurance amount from Siddhartha Insurance Limited. He had insured his shop with the insurance company, a few days ago. Ghimire was paraded today amid a press meet at the District Police Office. They are investigating the case, according to police.
