The death toll from a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in Thabang Rural Municipality-5 of Rolpa has risen to 10, while three people remain missing, Nepal Police said on Thursday evening.
The landslide buried houses and livestock sheds in Kotalbara. Five people died at the site, while five others from the same settlement were found dead in neighbouring Pyuthan district.
The deceased have been identified as 18-year-old Shanti Pun Magar, 60-year-old Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, 80-year-old Manakhana Pun Magar, 75-year-old Dal Bahadur Pun Magar and 85-year-old Hastakala Roka Magar.
Five other victims-seven-year-old Ashok Pun Magar, 34-year-old Mahendra Gharti, 66-year-old Mani Pun Magar, 34-year-old Bishnu Pun alias Jun Kumari Pun Magar and 80-year-old Bal Bahadur Pun Magar-were found dead in Pyuthan, according to police.
Two people, 22-year-old Himal Pun Magar and 25-year-old Sanjay Gharti Magar, were injured in the incident and have been sent to Butwal for treatment.
Police said nine-year-old Ashim Pun Magar, 80-year-old Ajambar Pun Magar and 72-year-old Lil Bahadur Pun Magar remain missing. Search and rescue operations are continuing with the involvement of security personnel and local residents.
The latest update marks a significant rise from the earlier reported toll of three deaths and nine missing after the landslide struck the settlement on Wednesday night.
