KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 28
The Rajendra Lingden-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party today decided to join the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government only if its conditions were met.
RPP Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said the party's executive committee would put forth its conditions related to nationality, development, service delivery, and good governance.
The RPP has 14 seats in the House of Representatives and is one of the seven parties that has extended support to the Pushpa Kamal Dahal government. The RPP wants the government's commitment expressed in the common minimum programme that the government will bring soon. PM Dahal discussed CMP with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli today.
He said one of the conditions that the party decided to put forth was to declare Prithvi Jayanti a national holiday to commemorate the contribution of Prithvi Narayan Shah to the unification of Nepal. He said his party also wanted to agree to bring Cabinet decisions under the purview of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
"Sometimes, the government suddenly reduces tax rates and gives tax discounts to certain businesses. Such decisions benefit certain business houses. Unless the CIAA has the power to look into such decisions of the Cabinet, controlling corruption will be difficult," Shrestha said.
He added that ministers had a tendency to take controversial development projects to the Cabinet just to evade CIAA action. Shrestha said that the government should also initiate the process of establishing a fertiliser factory in the country within this fiscal.
