KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 28

The two-way trade between Nepal and China through the Kyirong-Rasuwagadi border port formally resumed today after almost three years.

Navraj Dahal, consul general in Lhasa, informed that Nepal's exports to China through the land route, which had been suspended for a long time, officially resumed from today through the Kyirong-Rasuwagadi border port.

Altogether six cargo trucks full of Nepali goods passed through the port into China after an official ceremony, said Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu via its social media.

"Looking forward to more exports from Nepal to China," the Embassy stated.

Head of Rasuwa Customs Office Naryan Prasad Bhandari told The Himalayan Times that unofficially eight cargo trucks with goods worth Rs 5 million were exported to China yesterday.

"The goods including bamboo stools, Nepali paper, and handicraft have been exported so far," Bhandari said.

"Today one cargo truck with goods worth Rs 5.9 million cleared the customs office and will be exported to China tomorrow," he added.

Citing the threat of COV- ID-19 infection, Chinese authorities had restricted all types of movement across the border since April 2020.

Meanwhile, Hilsa/Purang port was also opened for one-way trade from December 26, as per a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
