RPP undecided on constitution amendment bill: Thapa

RAJBIRAJ: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa has said that party would take decision after the constitution amendment bill is tabled at the Legislature-Parliament.

Addressing a press meet in Rajbiraj of Saptari district today, Thapa accused the incumbent government for not being serious towards addressing the demands of the agitating Madhesi parties.

"Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre are not serious about solving Madhes problem instead they are meddling with Madhesi parties by creating rumor of tabling constitution amendment bill,". Thapa added.

"They really do not want agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal to take part in the third phase of local level elections, if so, it would be a huge disaster for Nepal," he lamented, while addressing the election campaign in Province number 2.

He cautiously urged the government to address the demands of the agitating Madhesi parties to dispel the vested interest of secessionist and extremist group in the region.

"Rastriya Janata Party Nepal looking to establish their rights within the constitution should be encouraged to take part in the polls to thwart secessionist mentality, and constitution should be amended to address the right demands of Madhesi people," he clarified.

He reiterated that the Party's demand for declaration of Hindu State and constitution amendment bill tabled at the Legislature-Parliament would be passed in the Parliament.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Thapa clarified that RPP was positive about addressing the demands of Madhesi parties through constitution amendment bill.

Earlier, the government had commenced two phase of local level elections on May 14 and June 28. The third phase of local polls in Province number 2 is slated on September 18.
