Rs 25m Indian aid for project

Kathmandu, August 24:

The Counsellor of the Indian Embassy, Pranay Verma, today laid the foundation stone for a Cold Storage building being constructed with a grant assistance of Rs 25.13 million at Rangeli VDC, Morang.

A press statement issued by the Indian Embassy said that due to lack of proper cold storage facility, farmers of that area are compelled to sell their products at low prices while they pay double the price for their own consumption during off-season. “The new construction will benefit almost two lakh farmers of 15 VDCs of Morang district,” said the statement.

Quoting Indian Ambassador, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, the statement stated that the new cold storage building would be able to significantly contribute in raising the income and quality of life of the farmers of Morang and adjoining districts.

According to the press release, Morang District Development Committee, in coordination with the Nepal Charkha Pracharak Gandhi-Tulasi Smarak Mahaguthi, will construct the fully-equipped building. An oversight committee has also been constituted to ensure community participation in overseeing the project.
