SARLAHI, AUGUST 13
Police have arrested a man with Rs 5.134 million in cash of an undisclosed source in Sarlahi.
According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, 57-year-old Jagannath Mahato Koiri of Gaushala Municipality-12, Mahottari, was arrested during a surprise check near the Rajdevi Temple in Brahmapuri Rural Municipality-2.
Police stopped a scooter (Ja 10 Pa 8652) after receiving information that a large amount of money was being transported from India towards Bayalbas. The cash was found concealed in a black bag carried by Mahato, police said.
The seized amount included 3,500 notes of Rs 1,000, 3,208 notes of Rs 500, 700 notes of Rs 100 and 200 notes of Rs 50.
Police spokesperson and information officer DSP Bed Prasad Gautam said the money had allegedly been brought from India and its source had not been disclosed, raising suspicion that it could be linked to hundi transactions.
Mahato has been kept in police custody for further investigation, Gautam said.
