KATHMANDU, JULY 3

The ruling alliance meeting has agreed to propose Uddhav Thapa of Nepali Congress as the chief ministerial candidate in Koshi province.

Rajendra Prasad Pande, Vice-chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) informed that the alliance meeting held at Baluwatar, in the prime minister's official residence today, agreed to propose the formation of a new government led by Thapa, the leader of Koshi Pradesh Assembly Congress Parliamentary Party, as the chief ministerial candidate.

He informed after the meeting that Congress and Maoist Centre had claimed the chief minister's position in Koshi Province. After discussion, they agreed to nominate Thapa, the leader of the Congress parliamentary party.

After the meeting, Pandey said, "Regarding the issue of government formation in Koshi Province, we have advised Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the NC parliamentary party, to take up the position of chief minister on behalf of the coalition, rather than what the parties in the coalition in the federal government suggest. Congress has the largest number within the alliance. Therefore, we have given support to the Congress' chief ministerial candidate."

He also informed that there was discussion on moving forward with the RPP in the Koshi Province government.

After the government led by chief minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Karki, did not receive vote of confidence, the coalition at the centre has been trying to form a government in Koshi Province.

Yesterday evening, the Chief of Koshi Province Parshuram Khapung called for government formation by 5:00 pm on July 21.

Pande also informed that there was agreement to bring the CK Raut-led Janmat party into the government.

He said that if two ministries were demanded by Janmat, it was agreed that one minister and one state minister would be given.
