• UML CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING

KATHMANDU, MAY 13

The meeting of the Central Committee of the CPN-UML has come up with decisions on 16 points. The three-day meeting prepared a proposal covering contemporary issues.

The proposal mentions that the despicable fraudulent business of sending Nepali citizens abroad as fake Bhutanese refugees, which has been going on for a long time, has recently come to the fore.

The proposal states, "On the one hand, the high officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs are involved in such illegal work and on the other, this has tarnished the reputation of the country in the international arena."

The UML demanded that the scam be investigated impartially without political bias or pressure and the culprits be punished to the extent possible.

The party made clear it would fully cooperate with impartial investigation conducted by the statutory bodies of the state. It also called on relevant agencies to carry out impartial probe of all scandals that have come to the fore.

CPN-UML Chair Oli has assured that the party would fully support such investigations. Similarly, the statement also mentioned that the country's economy would have to bear the effects of anti-national policies of the past when the five-party coalition was in power.

The proposal states, "The country has been pushed to extreme economic crisis as a result of placing businessmen's representatives in Ministry of Finance and changing the tax rates to suit their interests, and giving contracts to certain business houses."

Likewise, CPN-UML has made it clear that there was no discussion on federalism in the party central committee meeting.

Oli, while concluding the meeting, made it clear that it was unimaginable the UML would reconsider federalism.

Bishnu Rizal, deputy head of Publicity and Publication Department of the party, informed that Oli had said the UML would completely reject the rumour that federalism was discussed at the meeting.

Oli has also instructed the central members of the party to consider only official decisions of the party in the meeting. As per Rizal, Oli said that as the UML had led the constitution-making process, he was not in favour of altering any of its pillars.

Quoting Oli's statement, Rizal said, "There has been a rumour that a debate on federalism had started in CPN-UML meeting. It is false that CPN-UML will not accept federalism. The party chair dismissed the rumour outright."

The meeting also decided on the party's annual action plan based on suggestions received from the mission grassroots campaign.
