Sana Kisan Agricultural Cooperative Ltd Manharwa of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-18 has decided to provide Rs 168,500 to support people affected by the recent floods and other disasters in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
A meeting of the cooperative's board of directors on Sunday resolved to send the amount as a lump-sum contribution to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund for immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation.
Cooperative chairperson Nayan Kala Khadka said the contribution was raised from the institution's relief fund, savings from expenses members agreed not to make, board meeting allowances and employee contributions.
Sub-groups and inter-groups affiliated with the cooperative, including Uchidi, Jaitapur, Lamidanda, Kusmadi, Ramnagar and Badaharwa, also agreed to contribute money that would otherwise have been spent on customary group activities.
The cooperative said the contribution, though modest, was intended to provide relief to families affected by the disaster.
On Tuesday evening, the cooperative organised a candle-lighting ceremony in Badaharwa, Jitpur Simara-18, in memory of those who lost their lives in the floods and landslides of Bhadra 10.
Participants paid tribute under the slogan: "Turn grief into strength and destruction into development." The organisers expressed solidarity with affected families and called for collective efforts to overcome the crisis.
