RAJBIRAJ, JULY 19

Farmers held a demonstration in Saptari's district headquarters Rajbiraj today accusing the government of delay in resolving the problem of fertiliser crunch.

At the call of Janamat Party, hundreds of farmers took to the streets in Rajbiraj demanding that the government do the needful to address the fertiliser crisis and other problems of farmers.

They chanted slogans against the government and Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Mrigendra Kumar Singh Yadav also seeking the latter's resignation over failure to resolve farmers' problems.

Saptari is minister Yadav's home district.

After making a round of the town area, demonstrators reached the district administration office and submitted a 12-point memorandum to the prime minister through Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam.

The memorandum submitted by Janamat Party district in-charge Mamata Jha, central member Surendra Sharma Madhesi, former district coordinator Chandeshwor Mandal and others sought timely availability of fertiliser and seeds, free electricity for irrigation purposes, implementation of farmers' pension and crops' support price.

Similarly, it also sought compensation to farmers over the damage caused by extreme weather conditions and unconditional withdrawal of cases against those arrested over farmers' agitation.

The document has also warned of further agitation if the demands are not addressed in time.
