SARLAHI, NOVEMBER 18

Police in Sarlahi seized an auto-rickshaw carrying nearly 39 kilograms of marijuana after an overnight operation, arresting one suspect while another fled the scene.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Lalbandi Area Police Office led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Sushil Raut had been stationed near the inner road by Shiv Mandir in Lalbandi-6 from midnight on Sunday. The officers intercepted an auto-rickshaw (Prov. 2–03001H–328) and a Pulsar 150 motorcycle (Na 60 Pa 556) at around 5 am.

According to the District Police Office, the motorcyclist fled during the inspection, but police discovered seven bundles of cannabis wrapped in red plastic inside the auto-rickshaw. The haul weighed 38.89 kilograms.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Badri Bahadur Shrestha, 55, of Hariban Municipality-1, Kataun. District Police Office spokesperson DSP Saroj Rai said a search is underway for the absconding rider.

The Sarlahi District Court has granted a seven-day remand for further investigation under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act. The seized auto-rickshaw, motorbike and the detainee are being held at the Lalbandi Area Police Office.
