Sayapatri Samman to four writers

BANEPA: Sayapatri Academy, here in Banepa, Kavre, awarded this year’s Sayapatri Samman to four literary figures amid a programme here today.

Parshu Pradhan, Kalpana Pradhan, Modnath Prashrit and Kabita Poudel were those given away the award amid a programme. The programme was coincided with the Laxmi Puja — the birth day of famous Nepali poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota. In the programme presided over by Kathmandu University’s vice-chancellor, various poets recited their poems. Upon receiving the award, renowned writer Parshu Pradhan said that the government should buy one per cent of each literary book published so as to encourage writers. “Libraries should also be established in villages and districts and equip them with ample literary books in order to inculcate reading habits into the people,” he demanded. On the occasion, Prashrit talked on nationality and role of writers in building of the nation.
