SC show cause notices to RCCC, govt bodies

Kathmandu, September 1:

The Supreme Court today issued show cause notices to the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) and government authorities on the arrest of former minister Rajiv Parajuli for alleged corruption. A single bench of justice Khil Raj Regmi directed the RCCC, Cabinet Secretariat, the Attorney General and the Parliamentary Secretariat, to furnish explanations within three days. Responding to a writ petition seeking Parajuli’s release and challenging RCCC’s constitutionality, the bench, fixed the next hearing for September 8. Parajuli’s advocates claimed the RCCC was an unconstitutional body and it had no authority to take action against anyone. They said RCCC’s action was illegal as CIAA had already given him a clean chit six years ago.
