School reconstruction urged in Maisirang

Hetauda: Villagers of remote Kankada VDC in Makawanpur have sought reconstruction of an earthquake ravaged school in their locality. After the 7.6 magnitude earthquake of April 25 caused major damage to the building of Chepang Pragati Primary School set up to cater to children of the backward community in Maisirang, a technicians’ team inspected the building and labelled it as unsafe to run classes. Students are taking classes in the open. So, the school management committee and Chepang leaders have sought help to restore the school citing lack of fund to rebuild the damaged school facility with local resources. “We’re taking classes in the open, but it’s difficult as there is no tents to shelter during rainfall,” said Principal Karan Praja, adding they have appealed to the District Education Office to build temporary shelters or manage other alternatives to resume classes. The school provides free education to kids of the impoverished community. It’s three-room building was constructed five years ago with the initiative of a non-governmental organisation Bal Kalyan Nepal. There are 64 Chepang kids studying from Nursery to Grade 3 at the school being run with the support of DEO.
