PARBAT: A school here has been shut down after the students started to fall unconscious en masse, with suspected mass hysteria.

The Mahendra Jyoti Higher Secondary School in Lankhudeurali of Parbat was shut down Wednesday afternoon following repeated incidents of girl students falling unconscious all of a sudden, according to local guardian Jeevan Thakuri.

Fifteen girl students of Grade 8 and 9 fell unconscious all of a sudden in the afternoon and had to be taken to the local primary health centre for treatment. Their situation is now normal but they showed signs of mass hysteria, assistant health worker at the centre, Nar Bahadur Baral said.

The students were handed over to their guardians following the treatment.
