A man swept away along with his scooter by flash floods in Simkhola near the Kulekhani Dam in Makwanpur has been found dead, a day after his vehicle was recovered, police said.
The body of Mahesh Kumar Karki was found buried under sand about 200 metres downstream from the incident site in Indrasarowar Rural Municipality-2 during a joint search operation by Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Army on Thursday morning.
Karki had been swept away by a sudden flash flood in Simkhola at around 3 pm on Monday following heavy rainfall. Although security personnel launched an immediate search operation, strong currents, persistent rain and adverse weather hampered rescue efforts.
On Tuesday morning, search teams recovered his heavily damaged scooter (Bagmati Province 02-032 Pa 8054) about 200 metres downstream. Police later confirmed through Transport Management Office records that the scooter was registered in the name of Mahesh Kumar Karki of Sarlahi.
Makawanpur Police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Kafle said Karki's family members, who were present at the search site, identified the body after it was recovered.
