KATHMANDU: Thursday’s raid at Netra Bikram Chand’s house in Kapilvastu indicates the government’s resolve to deal firmly with the CPN, which advocates violence to capture state power.

Recently, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa told a parliamentary panel that the Chand-led party was taking advantage of the government’s leniency.

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal also indicated crackdown on the Chand-led party, stating that if Chand did not give up violence to achieve political goals, the government would deal with his outfit as per the law.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Jitendra Narayan Dev recently spoke in the House of Representatives demanding the government’s views on how it wanted to deal with the Chand-led outfit. On Wednesday, Naya Shakti Party-Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai spoke in the House saying the government should not take the Chand-led faction lightly as an increasing number of youths associated with that party had the potential to destabilise the government that commanded two-thirds majority in the Parliament.
