Second tranche of grant to quake survivors uncertain in Sindhupalchok

MELAMCHI: The earthquake survivors in Sindhupalchok district are still unaware of the second tranche of grant even after 22 months of Gorkha earthquake in 2015.

The "genuine" earthquake survivors, who were left to be enlisted as the victims, are yet to receive even the first instalment of the grant announced and distributed by the government.

Over 1,100 quake-affected people of the western part of Melamchi Municipality in the district had registered their complaints demanding them to be enlisted as beneficiary.

Though over 100 survivors in the Municipality are eligible to receive the second tranche, no effort has been made to that end so far, said Executive Chief of Melamchi Municipality, Purna Prasad Dulal.

Sindhupalchok is among the most devastated districts from the earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015.

The survivors, meanwhile, shared that they have not initiated the construction of permanent houses owing to the lack of knowledge about the list of genuine earthquake survivors published by the National Reconstruction Authority to date.

The NRA technical team had approved the list of 7,609 earthquake survivors among 9,071 people carrying earthquake victim ID cards distributed by the Municipality.
