Security tightened in Saptari, Nepal-India border sealed for 72 hrs

RAJBIRAJ: Nepal-India border points of all eight districts of province 2 have been sealed for the next 72 hours from today in view of the third phase of local polls in the province scheduled for September 18.

According to Saptari Chief District Officer (CDO) Bhagirath Pandey, the decision to seal the border points was taken with a view to averting any untoward incident during the election period.

As many as 12 border points of Saptari district adjoing Supaul and Madhubani district of India and the areas extending 60 km along the border have been shut to prevent any untoward incidents during the elections, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Singh at the District Police Office informed.

Security personnel have tightened the security prohibiting any vehicular movement across the border since Friday midnight. Although the pedestrians are allowed to cross the border, no trans-border transaction would be allowed after this evening, SP Singh said.

The sales of alcohols have been banned in view of the elections until September 19, while the public houses and the stores selling alcohols have already been closed a week ago, the DAO informed.
