KATHMANDU, MAY 24
Renowned Russian cosmonaut Sergey Ryazansky today created history becoming the only cosmonaut to have done both, flown in the space, and climbed to the summit of Mt Everest.
Ryazansky, a veteran of two space missions totaling 306 days in orbit (2013 and 2017), today reached the top of Everest summit at around 9:30am, Mingma Gelu Sherpa, Managing Director at 7 Summits Club, said.
Being the Everest Expedition 7 Summits Club, Sergey Ryazanskiy, Spanish climber Luis Miguel Lopez Soriano, Chhiring Tashi Sherpa, Milan Sherpa, Nima Dorchi Sherpa and Pasang Sherpa scaled Everest, according to Sherpa.
Earlier, Ryazansky conducted a live video call with his two colleagues aboard the International Space Station (ISS)-using Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by billionaire Elon Musk-from the base of Mt Everest.
Earlier, at least two astronauts- Maurizio Cheli (2017) and Scott Parazynski (2009) scaled Mr Everest.
