KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 7
Following the first meeting between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli since the Gen Z movement, seven Nepali Congress lawmakers have petitioned the Supreme Court for the restoration of the House of Representatives (HoR), which was dissolved following the Gen Z movement.
Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Whip Sushila Thing, and legislators Deepak Khadka, Nagina Yadav, Shanti BK and Jabeda Khatun have filed a writ petition with the Supreme Court. Former Attorney General Khamm Khati registered the petition to the Supreme Court to demand the reinstatement of the legislature.
Niarajan Pandey, deputy registrar of the Supreme Court, told THT, "Seven former lawmakers from Nepali Congress, including chief whips and whips, filed the writ today at around 4:00pm, but it is still under review because it lacks documentation. The petition does not mention party, but it looks more on an individual basis."
He stated, "The writ has not been registered. It will be preceded by further study."
A total of 17 writ petitions regarding the dissolution of the House of Representatives have been filed and are pending in the Supreme Court by the CPN-UML and Public Concern. Except for the Nepali Congress, all other writ petitions have had their first hearing.
The Supreme Court has already ordered that all previously filed writ petitions be heard together. Following the Gen Z uprising on September 8 and 9, a government was formed on September 12 led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Karki recommended that the House of Representatives be dissolved immediately after taking oath. President Ramchandra Poudel approved the recommendation.
