KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 17

The establishment faction of the Nepali Congress led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has retained majority in the 13-member office bearers' body, as seven office bearers are from the Deuba camp.

Among the 13 office bearers, Vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka, Joint general secretaries Mahalaxmi Upadhyay 'Dina', Mahendra Yadav, Farmullah Mansoor, Kishor Singh Rathaur, Uma Kanta Chaudhary, and Bhishma Raj Angdembe are from the Deuba faction. Deuba himself had retained the top post after defeating Shekhar Koirala in the run-off election.

Four office bearers are from the Koirala faction -- Vice-president Dhan Raj Gurung, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, and joint general secretaries Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar.

General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma, who was in the Deuba faction, left him and joined hands with Prakash Man Singh to contest the post of general secretary after Deuba did not include him in his team.

Prakash Man Singh later supported Deuba in the run- off election, but it is not clear if he would again be in Deuba camp or would act independently.

According to NC central election committee, for the post of joint general secretary reserved for a woman, Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya 'Dina' secured 2,533 votes against Kamala Panta's 2,105 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for indigenous nationalities, Bhishma Raj Angdembe secured 2,711 votes against Bikas Lama's 1,912 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for a Dalit, Jeevan Pariyar got 2,212 votes against Man Bahadur Bishwakarma's 2,175 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for a Khas Arya, Kishor Singh Rathaur secured 2,576 votes against Devraj Pandey's 2,059 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for a Tharu, Uma Kanta Chaudhary secured 2,762 votes against Teju Lal Chaudhary's 1,877 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for a Muslim, Farmullah Mansoor secured 2,776 votes against Sheikh Wakil's 1,871 votes.

For the post of joint general secretary reserved for a leader from a backward region, Badri Pandey got 2,411 votes against Jeevan Bahadur Shahi's 2,133 votes. Mahendra Yadav got elected to the post of joint general secretary reserved for a Madhesi.
