Kathmandu, May 20:
A meeting of the seven-party alliance’s Joint People’s Movement Central Co-ordination Committee, held today, called upon people of various walks of life, party leaders and cadres, women, youths, students, peasants, rights activists, journalists and members of civil society, to take part in a peaceful rally to be organised from Ason on May 22. According to a press release issued today, the high-profile movement steering committee has also fixed slogans for the rally. The meeting condemned the “government’s efforts to destabilise the bureaucracy and jeopardise the fundamental rights of civil servants” through an ordinance. It also condemned the local administration’s decision to issue circulars demanding details of party leaders and cadres. Meanwhile, UML office secretary Kashinath Adhikari condemned the Maoists for abducting the party’s former Ramechhap district committee member, Jit Bahadur Magar, from Tokarpur village three days ago.
