KATHMANDU, MAY 24

A Sherpa climber from Makalu, Sankhuwasabha died while descending from the summit point of Mt Everest, Sunday evening.

Wong Dorchi Sherpa who was a part of Seven Summits Club expedition, breathed his last near South Col above 8,000 m, base camp sources confirmed. Efforts are underway to retrieve his body.

With this, the season's death toll on Mt Everest has reached four. Pemba Tashi Sherpa from Sankhuwasabha died when he fell into crevasse near Camp II on May 18. Earlier on May 12, Abdul Waraich of Switzerland, and Puwei Liu of USA, perished during their descent.

Meanwhile, team leader Alex Abramov shared that a Russian climber was evacuated to Kathmandu for treatment as he complained of chest pain while heading for the summit push.

"Dmitry Livanov from Russia has been airlifted to Kathmandu this morning."
