KATHMANDU, MAY 24

Nepal on Monday reported 7,220 new cases of coronavirus infection from across the country. With this, the nationwide coronavirus infection count has climbed to 520,461.

Likewise, total fatalities from the highly contagious respiratory disease has climbed to 6,531 as 185 more deaths were reported from across the country.

In the same time period, 7,135 people recovered from the infection after which the active caseload stands at 115, 447.

Antigen tests confirmed 205 positive infections in the past 24 hours indicating that a total of 7,425 cases from both RT-PCR and antigen tests were registered.

As many as 1,806 infections surfaced in the capital while Lalitpur reported 681 cases, and Bhaktapur 298 cases today, shifting the valley's total 24-hour figure to 2,785.

According to the health ministry, 20,453 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 19,846 were PCR tests while 607 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 2,936,314 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

398,483 individuals have recovered from the novel coronavirus infection so far. The recovery rate from the disease stands at 76.6 per cent.

Currently, there are 924 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Sunday, Nepal's coronavirus case count had reached 513,241 with 7,598 newly confirmed cases.

Globally, over 167 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.4 million people have lost their lives to the disease.

Likewise, over 148 million people have recovered while more than 15 million cases are still active.
