Shortage of chemical fertiliser hits farmers in three districts

Damauli, August 17

Shortage of urea at Agriculture Materials Company Limited, Damauli, has hit farmers of Tanahun, Lamjung and Gorkha districts hard.

AMCL, which has been supplying fertiliser to farmers through cooperatives in those districts, has been facing a dearth of urea for the past five days.

AMCL Damauli branch manager Bal Bahadur Panth said the three districts were reeling under acute shortage of the fertiliser after the company ran out of stock.

Shortage of fertiliser when they require it the most has left the farmers worried. According to Panth, failure to transport fertiliser from Kolkata port has led to the shortage of the chemical fertiliser. He said the company, however, had adequate stock of DAP and potash.

“We have failed to keep the stock of urea fertiliser owing to its massive demand,” he added. The company has been selling fertiliser to farmers through 78 cooperatives in Tanahun, 34 in Lamjung and four in Gorkha.
