Shortage of fertiliser hits Bara farmers

Bara, September 21

Farmers in Bara are facing acute shortage of urea fertiliser due to Agriculture Material Company’s failure to ensure adequate supply.

Shortage of the urea has hit the farmers hard. Farmers are forced to return empty-handed from agriculture cooperatives, which distributes fertiliser supplied by the company to farmers.

Karaiyamai Cooperative had received 80 sacks of urea from Agriculture Material Company today. However, more than 200 farmers had lined up for the fertiliser. Eighty farmers were provided one sack of fertiliser each through lottery by the cooperative. Small Farmer Agriculture Cooperative Association Bara chair Mishrilal Sahani said farmers across the district had been facing shortage of urea.

Chief of Agriculture Material Company Office, Kalaiya, Sitaram Shrestha said the shortage was natural as the demand for the fertiliser was double the supply.
