Shreeram Sugar Mills has agreed to pay its dues to sugarcane farmers within a month.

The mills agreed to pay the dues it owes to farmers at a meeting held in the presence of Rautahat CDO Indradev Adhikari between the representatives of farmers and the mills at the DAO today.

As per the agreement, the mills will call farmers to receive the due amounts within a month.

Though the mills was closed down two years ago, it had not been able to clear the dues to sugarcane farmers. The mills had outstanding dues of Rs 400 million at the time it closed. It had paid Rs 370 million in various phases in the past. But, the mills was dilly-dallying with regard to paying the remaining Rs 30 million to farmers.

CDO Indradev Yadav said that the mills had agreed to pay the remaining dues within a month.

The meeting chaired by CDO Yadav and attended by representatives of both mills and Sugarcane Producers' Association had taken a fivepoint decision. As per the agreement, the mills will call the farmers to receive their dues in a month's time.

"In case farmers fail to receive the cash within the set deadline, payment will not be made to their proxies and their bank accounts at Rastriya Banijya Bank will be frozen," said CDO Yadav.
