Shutdown hits daily life, economy in Banke
NEPALGUNJ: The day-to-day life of the people in Banke district has been badly affected due to an indefinite shutdown for the past one week.
The shutdown enforced by the Tharuhat, the Madhes Struggle Committee especially in protest against the delineation of federal provinces has badly affected health and education sectors.
The committee organised the shutdown as of Monday and the United Democratic Madhesi Front joined the shutdown from today. The Front has called the shutdown in all the districts of the Tarai region from today. This has added to the woes of the ordinary wage earners and the citizens.
Transport services have come to a halt, affecting the daily life of the people. With this, it has been difficult to transport patients from outlying areas to the hospital. Regular studies of students have also been hampered due to the transport shutdown.
It is said that shortage of daily consumer goods has been seen in the markets here. The bandh is incurring Rs 50 million loss to the local economy, according to President of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Krishna Prasad Shrestha.
