Seventeen bodies, out of the 65 individuals who went missing in the Simaltar bus plunge incident, have been recovered. Among the retrieved bodies, nine have been identified.
On July 12, two buses were swept away by a landslide at Simaltal in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 of Chitwan district and submerged in the Trishuli River. Out of the 65 passengers on board, three managed to survive while 62 remained missing.
According to the Armed Police Force (APF), bodies of 17 missing passengers have been found so far.
Deputy Spokesperson of the APF, Shailendra Thapa, stated that the identities of nine victims have been confirmed, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining eight bodies. Among those identified are Indian nationals Rishipal Shah, Jaya Prakash Thakur, and Sazad Ansari.
Local victims identified include Bikas Pariyar and Sudip BK from Chitwan district, Ramit Kushar Majhi from Sarlahi district, Firoz Rahupamiya and Kishore Kumar Chaudhary from Rautahat district, and Paramananda Pandit from Bara district.
Deputy Spokesperson Thapa added that six males and two females are yet to be identified. Search operations continue for the remaining missing individuals and the two submerged buses.
