Siraha govt staff call off strike

Siraha, August 13:

Government employees in Siraha today withdrew their agitation after 11 days.

The government employees had been staging the agitation to pressurise the government to ensure security for them.

The employees agreed to call off their programmes after a meeting with officials of the administration and representatives of eight parties.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to meet the agitators’ six-point demand.

Among other things, the joint meeting agreed to initiate a process to compensate government employees, who were released from armed groups clutches’ on ransom.

The meeting also agreed to step up security in government offices of Siraha district, including the district development committee office, land revenue office, district hospital, Nepal

Electricity Authority, Nepal Telecom and other financial institutions.

The meeting also decided to provide round-the-clock security at the entry points of Lahan and Siraha municipalities.

At the meeting, representatives of political parties said they would not pressure the security agencies to release the arrested.
