SARLAHI, NOVEMBER 29
Six persons, including four police personnel, were injured when a clash erupted over fixing the voting site between two factions of the Nepali Congress at Balara Municipality, Sarlahi, today.
Congress' election officer and a police constable were critically injured in the incident. They were sent to Birgunj for further treatment after primary treatment at the local health facility.
A dispute had broken out after NC federal lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh and Province 2 Minister for Birendra Singh tried to take voting officer Umesh Chandra Jha to their convenient place.
While police tried to rescue Jha from the NC cadres' attack, they attacked police personnel. This led to the clash. Police had fired half-a-dozen tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, said SP Krishna Prasain.
Election officer Jha has received deep cut on his head. Similarly, police personnel, including four constables, were injured in the incident.
Minister Singh's personal security officer had opened two rounds of fire in the air after a dispute broke out between the two sides yesterday.
Meanwhile, federal lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh condemned the party's establishment for using the police force to attack party cadres. He accused Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand of trying to conduct the ward convention within the police circle.
Province Minister for Women, Children and Sports Birendra Singh, however, refuted the allegation and said Amresh Kumar had attacked the election officer and police personnel with his supporters to win the votes.
