Six killed, 27 injured in mishaps in 24 hours

Tanahun, July 31:

Six persons died and 27 were injured in separate road accidents in different parts of the country in the last 24 hours.

In Tanahun district, one person was killed and 23 were injured when a bus overturned after hitting an electric poll at Aanbukhaireni-5 on the Damauli-Muglin road this morning. The bus was heading to Kathmandu from Dang district. The Tanahun District Police Office identified the dead as Purna Bahadur Khadka (27) of Shreegaun village development committee-4, Dang.

Eleven critically-injured passengers are undergoing treatment in Bharatpur hospital, while others with minor injuries are being treated at a medical hall in Aanbukhaireni.

In Pokhara, 12-year-old pillion-rider Sanila KC, who was injured when a school bus hit a motorcycle, died at the Phewa City Hospital, the Kaski District Police Office said.

Sanila’s father Saran (32), who was driving the bike, was critically injured in the accident, police said, adding that Saran is undergoing treatment in the Pokhara-based Western Regional Hospital.

Following the mishap, irate locals vandalised the school bus. A report from Itahari said four persons, including a police inspector, died in three road incidents in Sunsari and Saptari districts.

Inspector at the Lahan Area Police Office Arun Singh and Ram Kumar Rai of Itahari died after their motorcycles collided last night, police said.

Pillion-riders Bidhya Shakya of Dharan and Parsi Bahadur Rai of Itahari were injured in the accident.

In another incident, Santosh Majhi (19) of Chakraghatti of Sunsari, who was injured after he fell from a truck in Sunsari last night, died while he was being rushed to a hospital, the Tarahara Police Post said.

Twenty-eight-year-old Dornath Bhandari was critically injured when two passenger buses collided in Arunkhola of Nawalparasi.

Mira Shrestha (16) of Odraha-7, Saptari district, who was injured when a bus heading to Biratnagar from Kathmandu hit her on the East-West Highway at Kanchapur-3 of Sapatari district, died while she was undergoing treatment in the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, the Kanchanpur Area Police Office said.

After the mishap, locals obstructed the highway section today, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
