Six persons arrested in two child marriage cases in Udayapur

GAIGHAT: Police have arrested six persons for their involvement in two different child marriage cases in Udayapur district.

Two cases of child marriage had surfaced in the district recently with one reported on December 4 and another on December 15.

After the reports of underage marriage were filed at District Police Office, all persons involved in both cases were swiftly arrested, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Prakash Gautam, at the Udayapur DPO.

According to police, 23-year-old Ashwin Koirala, son of Pushpa Koirala of Bhulke in Triyuga Municipality-3 and 17-year-old Goma daughter of Khechar Bahadur Khadka, of Tapli Rural Municipality-5 had gotten married at the house of Radha Khadka in Aadmara, Tapli on December 4. Police arrested four persons including bride and groom in connection to the case.

Similarly, Durga Bahadur (18), son of Lil Bahadur Khadka, of Bhumare in Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-6 and Kheli (17) daughter of Tek Bahadur Karki of Sukaura Kavrebhanjyang in Triyuga Municipality-16 were also arrested after a report was filed that they had gotten married. The couple were said to be in love and got married on December 15 in a temple.

They had been living at their relative's place in Nepaltar from where they were arrested, informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhim Bahadur Dahal.

An investigation into both cases have been started, added SP Dahal.
