Snowfall halts construction of road to Tarai

Dhading, January 31:

Due to yesterday’s snowfall, the construction work of an alternative road linking Kathmandu with Tarai has been halted in Dumsikharka of Agra VDC in Makawanpur.

Some 300 workers, who were engaged in the construction work of the road, have started returning to their home following the snowfall which has made it impossible for them to work here.

Those workers are from Kiranchock, Pida, Mahadevastan of Dhading and Gogane, Dandakharka, Kailas, Baiduntha of Makawanpur and were involved in the construction of an alternative road linking Kathmandu with Tarai on the border of Makawanpur and Dhading districts as volunteers.

The construction work started only on Tuesday.

Lama said some 70 residents of Dumsikharka have provided shelter to the workers.

The Manahari Development Organisation, Poverty Elimination Fund and Makawanpur District Development Committee have provided the fund for the construction of the 95-km remote road from Kathmandu to Chitwan’s Bhandara, along with Palungdandabas, Bhakunde and Dumsikharka of Makawanpur district. Construction of 25 km road has been completed.

The road can be an alternative to Tribhuwan and Prithvi highways after the its construction, said a local, Sri Bahadur Tamang.
