Snowfall hits life in Manang

Life in Manang has been badly affected due to incessant snowfall since Monday.

With snow blanketing the upper parts of the district the temperature has dipped and freezing cold has gripped the district.

According to locals, almost all parts of Nesyang Rural Municipality of upper Manang are under two to three feet of snow. Snowfall has also affected vehicular movement in the area.

Acting Chief of Annapurna Conservation Area Project Kailash Babu Tiwari said this was the first time that snowfall had occurred in human settlements in the district.

According to locals, snowfall has also occurred in Bhraka and Tanki among other villages of Chame.

Cold has affected the southern parts too after snowfall in the upper parts of the district.

Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Pant said, “After the snowfall in the upper parts of Chame, the locals have been unable to come out of their houses.”

Talking about the impact of snowfall, Tourism Entrepreneurs Committee Manang Chairperson Binod Gurung said, “This is the season of snowfall, but this time it has affected more than had been expected.”
