Solar power to illuminate municipality

Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality is installing street solar lights under ‘Light Municipal Campaign’ in all its 15 wards.

Solar lights are installed to facilitate people’s movement, minimise road accidents and untoward activities at nights. As many as 150 lights were bought at Rs 10.23 million.

Municipality Mayor Dip Narayan Rijal said solar lights were installed in areas that have banks and financial institutions and in crowded areas of the municipality, in the first phase. He added that solar electrification project was initiated to ensure safety of the municipality.

Mayor Rijal said as many as 57 solar lights were being installed in Diktel-1, five in Solam, five in Bamrang, four in Khalle, four in Laphang, six in Nerpa, four in Dorpachiuridanda, seven in Dorpabubalung, four in Lamidanda, six in Patheka, five in Kharmi, six in Jalpa, 15 in Nunthala, 15 in Buipa and nine in Bijayakhara.

Dhan Kumar Rai of Birat Energy Pvt Ltd Lalitpur, the contractor company, said solar lights were installed on utility poles with 12-voltage battery supporting 40 watt bulbs.
