Solu folks fearful of heavy rain, landslides

SOLUKHUMBU: As many as 1,750 households of 37 human settlements of Solukhumbu district have been reeling under stressful condition with rainfall and possible subsequent landslide.

The locals here do not normally sleep being wary of landslides no sooner rain falls.

According to Chief District Officer Jhanka Nath Dhakal, total 8,468 local people residing in 1,750 households of 37 settlements of the district are facing the trouble.

"We need to be awaken throughout the night when heavy rain takes place", said Rudra Khatri of Chaulakharka-3. The steep landmass nearby human settlement has seen deep cracks. Locals of some 33 households have been without sleep for the past one month being fearful of the sliding of the terrace into the river.

Informing that efforts are underway to shift he vulnerable households to secured places, CDO Dhakal said it is urgent to take them to other areas to avert possible crisis.
